Spirits of Nature

Robbi Campbell – photographer

I took these photos, I opened them up to see their detail and there I found their spirits. Their spirits rested within, mirroring the world as we see it and then clearly revealing their presence.

These photos were taken in Malaysia and Singapore in March/April 2007. Nothing has been added to the originals to make these spirits appear –
seek and you will find; look and you too may see.

See the goddess of the lotus flower;
the leaf sprite’s 3 faces;
the palm spirit;
the guardians of the sea shore;
the spirits of the river;
the gods of the pond water;
flower spirit
and pay homage to the world we live in, and all we share it with.

Robbi's interest in photography began during her Fine Art Degree years in Belfast. There she photographed the city in varying stages of rubble and destruction during the worst years of the civil conflict in the early seventies. She vividly remembers the agonising decision of whether to evacuate the dark room in response to the frequent bomb scares so losing the images developing in the tank, or risk life and limb and save the celluloid!

Her use of form and colour and the detail of texture she enjoys can be seen in her work. She imbues the subject of her photographs and digital prints with the atmosphere she gathers in situ, with the colours and texture of the world as she sees it. She then presents it to us in her work.

She produces both Open Edition and Limited Edition digital photographic prints.
